Event 4 – Astoria, Queens – (November 2024)
Stop #1: Rosario’s
📍 22-55 31st St, Astoria, NY 11105
Google Maps
We kicked off our crawl at Rosario’s, a beloved Astoria institution founded by Rosario DiMarco, who has been making pizza since he was a teenager. This family-run spot has been serving the community since 1986, offering classic New York slices made with house-made dough, sauce, and cheese. Rosario’s commitment to quality is evident in every bite, and their no-frills, old-school approach to pizza-making set the perfect tone for the day.
Stop #2: Nonna’s 1977
📍 29-13 23rd Ave, Astoria, NY 11105
Google Maps
Next, we visited Nonna’s 1977, home of the famous “Magic Slice.” Inspired by classic rock, each of their gourmet pies is named after iconic songs about women—think “Proud Mary,” “Sweet Melissa,” and “Gloria.” The menu is creative, but the pizza is seriously good, with a perfectly crispy crust and well-balanced toppings. This spot brings together nostalgia, great music, and delicious pizza in a way that makes for a truly unique dining experience.
Stop #3: Grand Avenue Pizza
📍 40-06 25th Ave, Astoria, NY 11103
Google Maps
For our third stop, we headed to Grand Avenue Pizza, a classic neighborhood pizzeria that has been serving up slices since 1965. Now run by Joe, who took over from his father, Grand Avenue is a place where tradition and quality reign supreme. Their signature cheese slice is a testament to how simple ingredients—when done right—can create something extraordinary. A crispy, slightly chewy crust, rich tomato sauce, and just the right amount of cheese made this one of the most satisfying slices of the day.
Stop #4: Andrew Bellucci’s Pizzeria
📍 37-08 30th Ave, Astoria, NY 11103
Google Maps
We wrapped up our crawl at Andrew Bellucci’s Pizzeria, a place with a deep connection to NYC’s pizza culture. Andrew Bellucci, a revered figure in the pizza world, dedicated his life to perfecting the craft. Sadly, he passed away in 2023, but his legacy lives on through the shop’s incredible slices. Now operated by his friend and business partner, Matthew Katakis, the pizzeria continues to serve what many consider one of the best slices in the city. The balance of crispy crust, tangy sauce, and high-quality cheese made for a memorable final stop.
Final Thoughts
Astoria delivered an amazing mix of classic, innovative, and legendary pizza. This crawl showcased the neighborhood’s rich pizza culture and proved that some of the best slices in NYC aren’t just in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Huge thanks to everyone who joined—we can’t wait to see you at the next one!
